Offshore bpo services

Another US IT firm opens up in India. This time it is the $17 mn firm, XML Star that specializes in portal solution and has technology alliances with some of the biggest names in IT such as Microsoft and Oracle. It’s Indian subsidiary will target the Asia-Pacific market with its proprietary products and has set up a business process outsourcing (BPO) center here for that particular reason.

“ We will be basically marketing in-house products and services and our focus will be on domestic and offshore BPO activities”, XMLstar India CEO and managing director Supratim Sen told IANS.

The company hopes to penetrate Asia-pacific markets and the gulf region, especially with its distinctive portal solution product that offers that languages services in over 65 dialects. XMLstar also offers specialized services in strategy, global marketing and expansion, software, IT networking and infrastructure, web operations and online customer support.

“We want to have a strong presence in markets like Japan, China, Korea, and Dubai within a time frame of one year”, said Sen, who is a director on the board of the United Bank of India.

According to National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM) figures, India’s IT Sector will be raking in moolah of about $80 million by 2008, which on its own is an enormous figure. And if that is something of news, the rate at which this sector has grown will further surprise you. For starters India's IT market has grown from a mere $1.73 billion in 1994-95 to a gigantic proportion of $16.5 billion in 2002-03, accounting for three percent of India's gross domestic product last year. Now that’s what we call some growth.
